The club was started by Miss Wendy Ayers at the Leicecter Polytechnic in 1979. She was Shodan (1st Dan) and she instructed until 1989.

She then past the club onto Dean James who was also Shodan. He instructed until 1990.

Dave Lenton started instructing in October 1990. By that time the Polytechnic had changed it's mame and became De Montfort University. He was also a Shodan and instructed until 1999. By that time he was a Sandan (3rd Dan) Fukushidoin

In 1999 Dave Lenton passed the club onto Terry Mickowski who was also Shodan. Currently, Terry has progressed to Sandan Fukushidoin.
